WHITESANDS, on the Extreme Far North of
New Zealand, is located on the eastern seaboard of the Cape Reinga
Peninsula. We have one Holiday House and one Cottage situated on the coast
at Henderson Bay. The house has a large open plan living area and two
big double bedrooms, all on 12 acres. You can see and hear the ocean from
the deck. The cottage is a self contained 2 bedroom unit situated on 15 acres. All just
400 metres from the ocean, private beaches and rock fishing spots.

ABOUT THE AREA We are
situated in the Extreme Far North of New Zealand on the eastern seaboard
of the Cape Reinga Peninsula, at Henderson Bay. Cape Reinga is famous
for it's "90" mile beach, and it's spectacular remote, wild
ocean. Tourists use this as a "highway" to enjoy it's spectacular wild ocean views, while travelling to the lighthouse. Driving along this beach is quite an experience. From the Cape Reinga Lighthouse watch the maelstrom as the mighty Pacific and Tasman oceans meet. Embrace the mythology at Spirits Bay, where the souls of the early ancestors departed New Zealand on their journey to the afterlife. Henderson Bay is quite different. Located on the East Coast, it is surrounded by pristine unspoilt coastline, featuring endless white sandy ocean beaches, small safe swimming bays separated by rocky outcrops, and rock pools. Some prefer the calmer blue water of the Pacific Ocean with a more serene aspect to the coastline. Situated 35 mins drive north of a major service town the seaside settlement of Henderson Bay with about 15 full time residents, is not well known and so is seldom visited by tourists. Henderson Bay is approximately 7 minutes drive from the village which has a Tavern, Cafe/Bistro, Boat club, General Store, Bakery, Liquor store, Golf Club, Wharf, Jet-ski hire, Kayak hire Fishing/Boat charter operators and more, yet it preserves a hint of remoteness too. The peninsula is very narrow at this location, so a 10 minute drive, via the forestry road will see you on the west coast, which is 90 Mile Beach. Go, sit on a sand dune and watch the wild horses play in the surf as the sun sets. | ||||

Whangarei to Henderson Bay takes 2 hours and 40
minutes, no stops. We know the road well, you may take a bit longer. Go to Kaitaia or Awanui, shortest distance is via Mangamuka Bridge. From Awanui take the road to Cape Reinga. After 40 kms or so, is Pukenui and Houhora. 6 to 7 kms further north, turn right onto Henderson Bay Road. 100 metres before the beach carpark turn left and travel 800 metres along Otaipango Road. Our gate and a large blue accommodation sign block the road. You have arrived at Whitesands, 98 Otaipango Road. | ||||
